Yesterday, I roamed around the cityhall mrt station trying to find an area with lesser people. Sadly, before i could find that ideal-very-little-people-train-carriage the train came. Then there was a lot of people squeezing in and squeezing out. Furthermore, I was carrying this big big bass guitar that threatened to knock the heads of people on my right and left, making it super difficult to squeeze myself into a carriage.

But i did anyway. While entering, I happened to look up to see a familiar tuff of hair hidden behind some random people. At that time my brain was going, oh shit. please not it let be someone i know, please just let it be some random person who has the same hairstyle as that person. But being the unlucky person i am, that person really was that person.

Yes anyway, I looked up then saw MONSTER. Well done, zexin and some of the other throwers would definitely know who i am talking about.

HAHA i found some of my favourite matches this year (in the olympics), even though there were no knockdown/ knockouts.
and i only have this year to judge coz' i never really managed to watch any other taekwondo competition.

Yes anyway, HA i got new people to admire!

2.Lim Su Jeong
3. Son Taejin

Son and Wu are like lightning fast la. okay maybe for wu jingyu is expected coz she's so small and she's in flyweight division, but woah really fast. reaction time also really fast.
and lim su jeong final match was rather boring but ohwells.

then YA. intensed intensed! match between Sung Yu Chi and Son Taejin so cool. it's like pa pa, then 1-1, then again 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5, 6-6, until son taejin broke the tie with one final kick at nearing the end of the 3rd round. 7-6! whee

then yesterday's match between wu jingyu and yang shu-chun/shujun very interesting also. haha

and super admiration for su li-wen. super scary la. her leg injured until like that already still can go on. Much less kick 2 head level kick AND participate in the sudden death round. HMM but pity pity, in the end she still lost to martina zubcic. i think it was because of her injury that's why she cannot evade the attacks/attack fast enough then the way she got kick right was when she was falling because of the pain. ohwells. but super cool.

hmm the lopez family.. i think mark lopez has long long legs, but sadly those long long legs weren't really used to his advantage in the match with son taejin. (izzit, someone told that to me, i couldn't really see why but ohwells. aiya, tkd noob what.)

yes anyway, since i have finished the entire vectors and mr chiang won't let me slack/study, i turned to doing lame stuff on sarah's paper. drawn a little wrongly but ohwells!

KBCC Taekwondo
I was basically quite slack throughout the entire lesson. HAHA because my pattern was considered as okay la, can pass, so don't need to care so much pattern and i didn't really feel like sparring. so me and yanyi were sitting at some random corner and chatting, when i realised that there was something different about ryu. apparrently, he cut his hair and kena punched. but yanyi and i were very unreliable, so he refused to tell us the long story behind why he got punched. i think i can connect with yanyi better than i can connect with erm drina, xinyi and the rest. zomg, it means that my communication skills are that of a 14 year old?

yes anyway. i dunno how but the last 2 sparring "matches" was between baggage and ryu, drina and me. yes the sparring thing between baggage and ryu was rather intensed, and i think ryu did a lot of unnecessary movements but his kicks ultra strong. and both of them very fast. but i got distracted by someone being annoying in the middle of the match. haha, i think drina will know who it is but ohwells. yes then drina happily asked wongsir if she can spar with me.

okay, despite having the height advantage, i was still scared of drina. like hello? i used to nickname her the assasin. scary lor. so i was like OHNO WHAT HAVE I GOT MYSELF INTO!

i think either before the 1st pause or 2nd pause, i accidentally kicked her at head/neck level but didnt follow through.
then the situation was like:

me: O_O; !!!!!!!; =brings leg down and hovers it just above shoulder=
drina: =turns to look at leg= O_O; !!!!!!!!!
me: =quickly regain senses, puts leg down= ZOMG SORRY.
drina: eh nvm. HAHAHAHAAHHAHA

i thought she crazy already lor. i hit her still laugh.
then towards the end right, i accidentally made her fall down by giving her a front kick when she was chionging in.
argh i feel bad. =(

yes, but my pants like what dropped in the end. lucky wongsir ended the match 5 sec after that happened.

but yes, drina is very vicious and pro. i wont want to cross her if im her height and cannot really counter-attack properly. so to spar her right, you need a very good back-kick/ jumping back thrust if you're her height. so scary. but if you're taller, a simple front kick would suffice. HAHA

100% was great. but my dad didn't let me stay back for long after it.

there was this quote "there is a God-shaped vacuum in every man's heart and only God can fill it." Nothing that is man-made, nothing that has been created can fill that vacuum, only God the creator can fill that vacuum. It really impacted me, and made me think about how i tried to run away from God, how i pushed him further and further away until he is nothing but a speck of dust hidden away in a dark dark corner.

While i was thinking about that, i went into my dad's car and was immediately drowned by the loud waves of chinese oldies blaring out through car mighty speakers. The putrid stench of stale cigarettes filled the air. I said nothing and started thinking about the situation at home. It's not as if i didn't know that this house that i'm in has already deserted the Lord. It's there so plainly true. My mom is making an effort to go back, but my sister and father are drifting further and further. Sometimes, i worry that we would never find our way back because we're too busy attending to the worldly chase we're all participating in.

My dad asked me how was 100% and asked what we did there. I tried to tell him about the details but he didn't seem to understand me, so in the end, i changed my answer to, a prolonged youth service. My dad then asked if it started from 7.30. when i nodded my head, he was like it's very long. too long. But i feel that there is no period of time too long to give praise and worship the Lord.

Upon reaching home and reflecting and thinking about my house, I wrote my first song, both lyrics and tune. Judging the fact that I've never written for anyone or even written a song before, I believe that this was not written of my own abilities, (even though i still feel accomplished) but it was written with the help of God. It might not seem much, it might not even make sense. But this is what i would give to the Lord for now.

And you have her here again, this post is about my fictional justice queen again.

Sometimes, pure justice goes overboard and it results in horrible consequences. Also, sometimes pure justice isn't that pure after all. Some corruption in the form of favoritism might come and corrupt the justice system. Unfortunately, the governess of the justice system would still see the justice system as complete flawless and unbiased. As we can all see, the justice queen don't really see her faults at the present moment. Sure, a third of her subjects skipping duty on the same day IS very suspicious, and the queen has every right to slaughter her subjects.

But what this lowly subject here do not approve is how she actually picks out a few subjects (this time, she picked out two) and disciplines them like crazy while she forgives one other subject that she so obviously slants towards. If the justice queen wants to show favoritism then please do announce it to us and admit that her system to justice is flawed and mindless. Please don't let us live knowing that if the queen doesn't like us, we can be slaughtered faster than we can do a turning kick.

Talking about loosing respect. We've been hearing about the royalties loosing respect for us very often now days. what surprises me is that the justice queen actually tried to go a big round and tell a useless story just to tell us about her loosing respect for her subjects. but in the end nothing happened. all the lowly subjects still got scolded. hmm this subject here also got scolded, the justice queen has made some changes to the the positions of the subjects. I wonder how long will this last. but sometimes i feel that the subject who has been sent to a different position is purely innocent.

On the 08/08/08 when people are probably watching the opening of the Beijing Olympics, (I kinda regret not watching that, i heard it was amazing. ohwells.)

Sometimes, i feel ashamed to call myself a part of nanyang. Especially at a time when nanyang people are too busy making personal attacks on people that they MIGHT or MIGHT NOT be familiar with to see the big picture.

Sure, connect! Singapore was a failure. All of us knew that. But there is no need to flame the organizers, especially one particular organizer that JUST took over on thursday. We all probably know that for failure to occur, there must be a few factors that accumulate to result in that devastating failure. But looking at some senseless comments posted on a particular person's blog, I'm not sure if those people understood that. Well blaming the organizing committee when they don't even know what is going on behind the scenes.

I think they do not expect to be thanked after this event turned out like this, but they should not deserved to be flamed, or given personal attacks. What does the council elections have to do with this event? If you are dissatisfied with an event, then go out and crack your brains to bring back some constructive comments instead of just targeting the person you feel is the most responsible for the event. Sure, if you targeted the person and gave constructive comments on how the event can be improved next year, it'll be fine. But targeting the person and giving personal attacks on how the person got elected as her current post was because she was boot licking the teachers and seniors is not a good idea. How does her being elected or even how she actually RESPECTS the teachers affect this event?

Anyway, think about it. Isn't being someone that actually listens to the teachers and doing something that is viewed right by the world better than being a senseless rebel without a cause? Isn't it better than being people that jump onto the bandwagon without processing the information first?

I think that they deserved to be commended somewhat after all the effort they put in. Every event has its screw-ups. They can treat this as an experience to do a better one next year, where everything would be better planned, so that not so many things would go wrong. And I'm not saying this as someone who WASN'T there, but as someone who went there and stood under the hot hot burning sun [as stated by some people], said only the last few lines of the pledge and saw the president disappear in his crowd of people after a few minutes.

Maybe, all of us should THINK before SPEAKING, or TYPING a comment. This way things would come out differently.

Maybe, the internet is killing our morals, leading us to a thing called cyber-bullying. Sure, personal attacks are not cyber-bullying. Just a word of advice, if you want to leave someone a personal attack on their blogs, why don't take credit for it and leave your name with the personal attack instead of leaving it as anon.

And no, I'm not promoting the fact that a friend of the organizer should be hypocrital and lie through her teeth and tell the organizer that the event was a success. Why not just tell her sincerely straight in the face, good job but it screwed this time. Sure, blunt but honest. If one is a friend, personal attacks and hypocritical efforts are absolutely a nono.

Oh ya, and one more thing. has anyone actually tried organizing such a large scale event before? has anyone tried taking responsibility for something that involves so many schools all around Singapore? yes? no? well if the answer is yes, i find it hard to believe, and as much as i want to believe that the event was a success, i think it would be a failure. Why? look at this guys, we are even COMPLAINING about setting up one pathetic stall for a SMALL-SCALE funfair that is only meant for our school. sure, when they all get to be in charged of something small, they complain, and yet when everything is being organized for them, and it screws, they complain and give personal attacks. Well done.
Not as if our small funfair stalls are very successful.

i am seriously quite ashamed to be part of nanyang when there are idiots out there cyber-bullying someone because they are too scared to take action face to face.

Would you set aside time for God?

In the past, my first response would be definitely, absolutely. And then I'll go away and spend the week being a totally secular being, living in this lost, lonely world. Recently, amidst the demanding days filled with schoolwork and different scoldings, I have been thinking about what it means to be spending time with God. Does spending time with Him mean merely just giving a brief and insincere prayer to Jesus at night? Does spending time with Him consist of going to church every Sunday, lifelessly walking around just to show others that you do go to church?

The more i thought about it, the more i realized that i am, in name, a Christian, but i haven't been doing much for God. I mean look, i can't even set aside enough time to think about Him. Still, he is willing to wait for me, to touch me with the Holy Spirit. I have finished my own Quiet Time a few weeks ago, so now, if i am unable to be at teaching, i have no materials to do my Quiet Time with. Yet, last week, while i picked up my guitar and attempted to sing who am i by casting crowns, i pondered again on what it really means to give Jesus time. Does it mean putting aside time to rush Quiet Time? Perhaps not.

Today, when i was trying to show my mother the "Healer (this is our God)" video, i again pondered on what it means to have time for God. My mother refused to look at the video and the story behind it because she wanted to make her pizza. Finally, after much persuasion, i managed to switch on the video and the story behind it for her to listen and be touched by the Spirit through it. To my utter disappointment, she started shouting for my auntie and scolding her for making the pizza not nice. She missed almost half the song, and the song haven't really finished loading yet, so i decided to let her watch the story behind it. I told her "mom, you will be touched when you watch this." Shockingly, my mother replied, "you only say like that because you watch first time, last time i go for the global worship i also cry what. nothing one."

I was very unhappy when i heard that. Does she mean to say that you can only be touched once by the Spirit? Does she mean to say being touched by the Spirit is nothing? I know she doesn't set aside time for God in the week. Sometimes, on Fridays or Saturdays she would do the Quiet Time that was to be done everyday during the week. And when i tell her that she should do it everyday, she tells me that there isn't time. I believe that this is just an excuse, because i use it too. It only means that God is not number one in our life. I have neglected him, i have left him in the shadows while i run on, searching for anything that can fill me up, anyone who would attempt to understand me. My mother on the other hand, involved herself with another type of worldly affair. She started focusing on branded goods and material things.

And she's not the only one like this. I feel that i'm not much different from her. That is the reason why i have not taken the step forward to be baptized. I don't want to be baptized then end up like that. Neither loving nor fearing God. I don't want to be baptized when i don't even know what spending time with God is like.

I want to be a God-fearing Christian,
I want to be a God-loving Christian,
I want to set aside time for Him,
I want to live for Jesus,
I want to have a passion for Jesus,
I want to hand my life over to Him.

And when everything goes wrong, and when everything seems like they're crashing down on us, to be able to set aside time for the Lord and still say to the Lord "I believe You are all i need, I believe You're more than enough for me, Jesus, You're all i need" is true worship.

Here is something I got from the Healer (This is our God) video. It has nothing to do with not spending time with God but i think it is inspiring

He took the punishment and that made us whole. And by his bruises we are healed. Hallelujah!"

Will i set aside time for God?

Now my answer would be, yes i would. I should get a Quiet Time book and set time aside for him now.

I have three things to talk about today. Besides the fact that it was an extremely slack day today and some stall auntie called me XIAO DI. WHICH PART OF ME IN MY SCHOOL UNIFORM LOOKS LIKE A GUY! ZOMG.

ONE.
Justice Queen.
Yes, this will be a short one, because i can't be bothered with it anymore.
Why can't two people go empty the dustbin, maybe the rubbish was overflowing or something so two people are needed. And going to dump the rubbish is also considered as doing class duty so what is the problem? Why must a fuss be kicked up because two pathetic people went to empty the dustbin?

Maybe I'm being too sensitive, but cleaning the classroom everyday is alright, calling your classroom smelly might be a little excessive but it's still alright, asking us to pull up our socks is okay, asking us to stand in reg no. and not to wear jackets during assembly is also okay. Because all these apparently are just rules that people who have strong sense of justice would follow.

But if it becomes like scolding people for going in pairs to clear the dustbin, i think it might be a little too excessive. Maybe it might instill in us a sense of better responsibility but no need to scold until the kid gets so upset.

Rules are rules but morals are morals.
Maybe i just have to learn how to accept the fact that our morals are parallel to each other and would never meet.

A few more months..

TWO.
Tell me why does the younger kid always gets the better deal out of everything. Even if you are doing an important project in your extremely important year, the younger sibling still takes your laptop claiming that she's using it to do an important discussion and doing project with her friends when she's so obviously just listening to music. How does placing the laptop at your back and then blasting music from it, with msn alert noises coming out of laptop which one of her conversation consisted of ohmy she's so hot, with her ear stuck to the phone and she's pasting stuff on some board constitute to a important discussion and doing project with her friends? isn't it just blasting music and talking to friends and phone hogging and doing project half-heartedly?

Hello? Can anyone tell me why do i get chased up to the computer which doesn't have any LA information while my sister who is doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING gets MY LAPTOP that has MY LA information on it. Where is the sense? Where is the logic?

But then again, being older, I should give way right?
Give way at the expense of my results okay. so if i fail my oral comm. this time, it is not my fault. no it was never my fault in the first place. it was only your youngest daughter's fault. that arrogant phone + MY laptop hogger.
Why can't she use HER OWN LAPTOP.
I mean she totally has one of her own.

Why are people prejudiced against people who are not very good looking. Just like in after tkd, I was talking to bryan about shim. (jason/jenson/jackson)
Coz she kinda confessed to me she is a girl and that she's not lesbian, as if she's scared that I'm interested in her. As if, my orientations are straight lor.

Yes but that's not the point.

While i was telling bryan about shim being straight, he told me, "maybe she just want to bluff you into friending her so she can convert you to a lesbo." or something along those lines. when i told him that she was straight, his first reply was, "as if any guy would like her."
Frankly right, i was quite shocked =X

Even though she looks and acts and insists that she's a guy, i think that she still has quite a feminine face. Okay, it might not look very feminine face now because it is rather meaty, but if she looses some weight she would look fine.

I just came back from band concert. It is very good =3

WELL DONE NANYANG CONCERT BAND!

Although i am not in the position to comment on any songs, i personally like the song that was played right before the interval! (at least i think it was, i think it's either the 2nd or 3rd song.) I love it and i like that disney thing thing too. =3 love love

yes and me and nicolea realized that during the alumni band performance one of the bass instruments was out of tune. and xinyu agreed i think.

yes anyway, pinky no good in music so i shall thus stop here.

AND YA. that person at the counter looked at me super weirdly when i handed over nicolea's flowers, my dragonfruit (eh i owe someone money right) and my bass. my dragonfruit is so pretty lor, i don't understand why some people don't appreciate the beauty of my lovely dragonfruit!

It's never about the students not making the grade towards the exam
- the students have done their best
- the correct critism should be that if the student is medically physically or emotionally cracks up during the exam, is it a fair assessment of their abilities
- major critism for the % for exam
- a one time sitting for an exam does not assume that the student would be stable at that time
- exam tests the stamina/endurance of the students (if you dont make the grade, then you are not suited for studies. if you do not have the resilience to carry it through, then sorry D= )

I shall blog about justice queen again

Maybe it's just me, but recently I've been rather irritated over this thing. Looking back at what happened last year, i realised that last year was such a good year and everything that happened pales in comparison as to what happens this year. What is justice's problem recently? Just because she can't handle her own personal affairs and others attitude towards her, does she have to vent it on our class. It might not be so to her but it seems as though justice is doing that to us.

Well, like always, we started our day with the curtains on the far left of the classroom drawn. Why? Because the sun shines directly into the eyes of some people like *ahem* yours truly and her table partner, grace, and some other people at the left side. At this moment justice queen walks in and starts to demand for the curtains to be pulled apart, claiming that our class is smelly. Mind you, it was early in the morning, i beg to differ, i bet we haven't even started perspiring. How on earth is our class smelly. I think our class is one of the cleanest class in the sec4 level, and we actually BOTHER with our class duty. At least the wednesday people do their duty. Okay, fine, if the class is smelly, just open the window wide and draw the curtains because the sun is not hot but super bright. It's so hurting to the eyes. Fine, if drawing all the curtains is not all right, why not draw the part where it's the brightest so that we can at least open our eyes. Can anyone tell me why just because our class is so called "smelly" a student has to be sent away from her seat to sit at a corner. I don't understand what is the problem with drawing the curtains. Because right after justice queen walks away, the curtains are immediately shut.

The strange rebellion behind the back of the one who they are trying to rebel against. (ah, just like what i'm doing now)

Another thing. politically correct answer and getting suaned for not giving politically correct answers. follow your heart? yeah, sure. And that, shall be reserve for another time.

- does it breed the independant type of mentality or does it spoonfeed? [I think independant ba]

- it's very easy to say that *fill in the blank* school can introduce game design to all sec 1 students
- but one day if someone says that they want to arrange aristotelian logic for the sec 1 students to learn
- there has to be an optimum for the students to learn, not too difficult not too easy
- challenge for schools, where is the pitch?
- Spiral cirriculum - eg, im going up
- american schools, in 6 years, they do the same topic but at a higher level each time
- Foundation years needed? how many?
- issue: how much should be prescribe, how much should be elective? how much should be core curriculum
- this is a problem
- if the objective of the school/country is to produce people who specialize, then i don't think there needs to be elective (or much room..)
- eg in the 60s and 70s, certain communist countries they put students (identify little boys and girls and put them in sports schools, they ONLY did sports) in specialized schools where they learn their specific skills, VERY specific skills.
- the more breadth and less depth (of education/curriculum), you can't have both, you have to have some trade off.
- how do we stream leaners, how do we customize education, how do we put them in classes? Classes of what.
- in traditional spore schools we are classed according to academic abilities
- how do we classify people?
- what is the purpose? What is the outcome?
- are we in a pragmatic society that says that "oh she's learning for learning's sake"
- are we too pragmatic so there MUST be a outcome for education?

Assessment
Problems with the current school assessment (standardized test):
- Too rigid, the tests papers that are set now is an assessment that is uniform, standardized, impersonal, and absolute.

- It only encourages the teachers and the students to cover in school what is tested. eg the teachers tell them what to study and how to study, what to ignore and how to answer the question. For these type of tests, the teacher would also highly recommend the student to practice more papers so as to "know" how to answer the questions in the paper. But this is not a true assessment of a student's ability.

- In theory, the standardized test it gives the students a solid objective of what they must achieve and an equal opportunity for their advancement. But this only creates unhealthy competition which would ultimately result in talented but not exam-smart people (eg. Isaac Newton) dropping out of school or just retaining because they did not pass their exams. Also it would result in a group of marks-obsessed teenagers. No good at all.

- Forces the students to learn and study for one standardized test instead of encouraging them to learn a variety and spectrum of topics. And even if they do read a variety of topics (eg. for GP), these information will be easily forgotten once the test is over.

- Students would adopt a learn-for-the-test-and-forget-after-the-test mentality. This mentality would not help the students to sustain information for their lives in the future.

Suggested school assessment:
- 3 different types of assessments, but only 2 would be counted (test based & classroom or authentic & classroom)
- Test based assessment [60%MCQ. 40% Structured Questions]
- Authentic assessment [higher order skills and experiments]
- Classroom assessment [variety of feedback and discussion method that judge the quality of the student’s learning process]
